Dealing with an addicted family member

Today we are celebrating my son’s birthday. He has just turned 26. He is my firstborn, the light of my life, the one who stole my heart from the moment I laid eyes on him. I promised to give him the best life I could. I vowed to always love him, protect him and never hurt him.

He will join us today for his birthday get-together. Our family will start preparing for his visit, as the walls go up and we take cover. We each have our own way of dealing with him. I will no doubt have the loudest reaction when I see…
